HOW WE STARTED Fakhari Sidiqqui was born in Pakistan where he attended high school and college in Abbottabad. At age 18 his father passed away, and being the eldest son of a family of 7, he had to find a way to help support the family. He chose the path of education. In 1959 at 19 years old he won a full scholarship to the American University of Beirut (AUB), Lebanon. Upon attaining B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees from AUB, he earned the Sir Vincent Meredith Fellowship for PHD studies in Economics at McGill University in Montreal in 1964. In 1968 he started his academic career at Bishops University in Lennoxville, Quebec where retired as a full Professor of Economics in 2002. Having benefitted from financial help for his education Fakhari and his wife Norma wanted to find a way to repay those who helped him by providing help to others in need. The Pakistan Fund of Canada was started in 2003 to raise funds to help the poor in Pakistan in the field of Education, Family Planning, and Emergency health assistance. From a very modest beginning the fund now assists families by supporting their children in getting an education. Sadly, Norma Sidiqqui passed away in December 2017. Norma was instrumental in helping the fund achieve its goals and will be missed by the families and children she supported in Pakistan and those of us who knew and worked with her in Canada. Fakhari spends six months of the year in Pakistan where he directs the fund and works with the local communities. Your support for the program is sincerely appreciated and is making a difference. OUR TEAM A volunteer board of Canadians manages the fund. The president spends 6 months a year in Pakistan administering the charity. All funds raised go directly to helping those in need President: Fakhari Siddiqui, Professor Emeritus of Economics Treasurer: Susan Chartrand, Retired Accountant Secretary: Gary Rennick, Retired Railway Executive Dan Irwin, Retired Dentist AVM Abbas Mirza, Retired Air Force Officer
